Daily Inspiration – Penguins Ornaments DIY

Tuesday, December 3rd, 2013

Are you fully recovered from your Thanksgiving food coma? I finally am. I was looking forward to “black Friday”, not only for the leftovers but for our traditional putting up of our Christmas tree HA! Last year I created these cute little guys, I wanted to make some new ones for this year. I guess I’ve been making ornaments every year so I had to continue the tradition. Not sure how I ended up on a penguin, but I do love it. To make them, I simply played around with different shapes of felt and fabric. I sewed them by hand and stuffed them with some cotton balls. I used some yarn for the string and a hot glue gun for their little eyes. Pretty simple. Are you making ornaments this year too? Please do tell! Merry Christmas!

Daily Inspiration – Wine Cork Placeholders DIY

Wednesday, November 27th, 2013

Last year I made these placeholders for our Thanksgiving table. For this year I knew I wanted to create some new ones. I’ve been keeping all the corks from our wine bottles (for some strange reason) so I decided they would be my base. It took me about 10 minutes to make them (including all names stamped on cut outs of scrap-booking paper). I’m hoping our guests will feel special and know exactly which seat has been reserved for them :) If you want to make them, this is what you do: grab as many corks as you’ll need, depending on how many people will be sitting at the table. Using an Xacto knife (please be careful) pull the blade across the cork with firm pressure. Repeat until you’ve made your slice completely across the top of the cork. Then simply slide the place cards into your cork holders. How easy was that? Don’t you love little details on a table like this? Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Inspiration Nook Cravings – Spinach Pasta Salad

Monday, November 18th, 2013

I’ve been craving pasta salad ever since I hosted a little ladies night at home (hi girls!). My friend Amanda brought it and it was incredible. I turned to one of my other good friends for a little help, and he didn’t disappoint. Yes, I’m talking about Pinterest! I came across this great recipe from Two Peas and Their Pod and used it as my base and ended up adding my own little touch at the end. I used bow tie pasta, baby spinach instead of arugula and a lime instead of a lemon. I know, I know, I’m crazy. It was my first attempt ever making pasta salad and the mister and I loved it. As I’m typing this I’m looking forward to finishing the leftovers, HA! I might have to fight him over them. Are you a pasta salad lover? Which one do you like? Please do tell!
