Daily Inspirations – DIY Recycling Wine Bottles

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011

The day I saw this picture a light bulb went off in my head just like in the cartoons. I loved the idea of reusing old bottles as flower pots so I was up for the challenge. (The Pinterest Challenge was a perfect fit for this too) The whole DIY bottles idea comes originally from this post. But instead of using mason jars I was gonna use wine bottles. All I had to do was get some spray paint. I had my glue gun and bottles ready to go!

First using a sharpie I wrote down “love” and “amor” on the bottles. I just loved the idea of making these bottles a bit romantic. Yeah, I’m cheesy like that.

Then using the glue gun you re-write your words using the pattern you created with the sharpie.

Now for the fun part ( or least to me) you spray paint your bottles with the color of your choice. I decided to get the “gloss” spray paint so they would come out a little more fancy, haha. I left them dry overnight and the result should look a little like this…

Thanks Katie Bower for coming up with the “Pinterest Challenge” idea and special thanks to Young House Love  for sharing it too!

I had too much fun with the spray paint. Have you done any projects using spray paint? Any other ideas you would like to share?

Hope you get inspired!

I love this! I have a couple of questions. How many coats did you use? Did you use any tricks or set-up the bottles in a certain way so you could spray the whole area at once? I’m totally pinning this!

Thanks so much for your comment! Here is what I did, I placed the bottles on the floor (outside) and placed a paper bag around them so when I sprayed them it wouldn’t be as messy. I did just one coat but two on the blue one around the “word”, since it dried kind of funny. The trick is to keep the spray paint shaking while you paint the bottle, it is key to make it even. I also was paining by section just spinning the bottle using my thumb inside so I wouldn’t ruined the paint around it. Hope this helps. Let me know how they come out!
